Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal is an accomplished Nepali diplomat, scholar, and global strategist whose career embodies a rare blend of intellect, leadership, and vision. A recognized advocate of soft power, people-centered diplomacy, and technology-driven engagement, she has dedicated her public life to strengthening Nepal’s global presence and promoting peace through dialogue, cooperation, and inclusive leadership.

Serving as Nepal’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Sultanate of Oman and later to the Kingdom of Spain, Dr. Parajuli Dhakal significantly advanced Nepal’s diplomatic, economic, and cultural relations across the Gulf region and Europe. In Oman, she was celebrated as the “People’s Ambassador” and “Active Ambassador” for her empathetic engagement with the Nepali diaspora, notably coordinating welfare and repatriation efforts during the COVID-19 crisis. In Spain, she deepened Nepal’s partnerships in multilateral diplomacy, cultural exchange, and sustainable development, and was elected Dean of the Asia-Pacific Ambassadors Group in Spain, recognizing her leadership and contributions to regional diplomatic cooperation.

Academically distinguished, Dr. Parajuli Dhakal holds a Doctorate in English Philosophy from Nepal Sanskrit University for her groundbreaking study, “The Representation of Women in the Vedas and the Bible.” She also earned a Master’s degree in English Literature from Tribhuvan University and completed Business Studies in Organizational Behaviour at the University of Wollongong (Dubai).

A trailblazer beyond diplomacy, she began her career in the private sector as Chairperson of Carefare Pvt. Ltd. and founding director of Ghost-Writing Nepal, dedicated to arts, literature, political science, sociology, and cultural heritage. A technology enthusiast, she actively explores digital diplomacy and the transformative potential of technology in governance and cross-cultural communication.

As President of the Ambassadors Club, a prestigious, non-partisan platform uniting resident and non-resident Ambassadors, Heads of Mission, and accredited Diplomats to advance diplomacy and international cooperation; International Relations & Global Diplomacy Dialogue (IRGDD), a leading non-partisan, non-profit think tank shaping global policy discourse; and The Diplomat Nepal, the nation’s first diplomatic magazine, she continues to champion inclusive diplomacy, women’s empowerment, and sustainable development, while fostering dialogue on peacebuilding, innovation, and strategic global partnerships.

Honored with the prestigious “Suprabal Jana Sewa Shree” medal in 2019 by the President of Nepal, Dr. Parajuli is celebrated for her commitment to national service and thought leadership.

Her advocacy spans digital diplomacy, economic diplomacy, green economy, education, and cultural exchange, reflecting her belief in Nepal’s potential as a bridge between cultures and continents.

An avid reader, writer, and public speaker, she also enjoys sports. She is married to Mr. Bimal Dhakal and is the proud mother of a daughter and a son. Dr. Parajuli’s life and work stand as an inspiring testament to diplomacy anchored in intellect, empathy, and transformative vision.
